Stories From The Road

There are various definitions for the word, “Grassroots”. One suggests that the word represents ordinary people with an extraordinary message. Another states that it is the essential foundation or source. The question has been posed more than once, “So how did you all come up with ‘Grassroots’ as the name of your first CD?” The answer is easy but the process was not as streamlined as you would think! As a group, we prayed, we each weighed in, we would discuss during rehearsals, emails, messaging, weeks passed and by the time it was all said and done, we had nearly 40 recommendations. Not one of them was the title, “Grassroots”! Would you believe that the word came up during a casual conversation while on the road after one of our concerts? It spilled right off of Sherry’s lips and those of us around her all had the same reaction. We liked it and it really resonated with us! There is such a strength, a stability, and something that would indicate a “movement”…something planted deep and wide that creates powerful change! THAT is what we, as New Covenant, want our Message to accomplish and that is why there was no better title than “Grassroots” to represent our first CD. Jesus Christ is the “Essential Foundation and True Source” of ALL we bring within our music. Like the back of our cover reads, “Ordinary People…Extraordinary Message”, we are just a small group joined together to help create a “spiritual movement” within the hearts of those who hear us. Who knew, after all that time passed, that such a favored and meaningful album title would come so easily, so simply and in the unlikeliest of places…traveling down the highway in a van? That’s how God works sometimes.

Ephesians 3:17 (ESV)
“So that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith – that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength…”.
